if the shaft can be pulled out without removing the drum then its a full float and since it's an 88 it'll have a 10.25" sterling rear end unless they had an oddball axle under there but as far as i know they all came with the sterling, and now a days there common as dirt. i know where there are 2 in the local scrap yard right now
but if you have a trailer package or a hevy duty package you may find a dana 70 or 80 under there but i realy doubt it they were mostly used under the f350 and dulley's
and just a note ford hasn't used a rear 60 since the early 80's and as far as i know no 1/2 ton has ever used a dana 44 rear end (excluding the new nissan) so i doubt a 3/4 ton has, but most all of them use a 44 front (which break realy easy under a full size lol)
and just to get a jab in, full sizes kick a$$

Well as far as you know....your wrong...lol....kid I worked with at Hummy's his half ton 96 F150 had a D44 in back and I believe Burnt's is a 90(please say what year it is Burnt)...I figure it being a F250 it's gotta be a beefy rear end.....I don't think it'll be that hard to find one....but cheapest would probably be Tafts...I mean if we can find out what it is forsure I can go there and rip out a axle for ya this week for like 50 bux or something....he used to charge 35...but it might have gone up cause steal is high So lets find out forsure.....my not working still gotta come in handy for something ;D
If it is a 10.25 that or a 9" would be better to know...also what gear is in it What exactly is bad...are the axles poched...did the gears melt or break or someting Is it repairable?

OK so I looked a little If its all stock Duder is right and it'll have a 10.25 rear(which scrap yard have them Duder...lol) Also yours is a manual tranny right If it is then your C5 translates to a 10.25 rear with 4.10 gears and Limited Slip(Posi) rear...Very Nice ;D SO...if this is all true....this is what we gotta find ya So if you phone around up there and get a price for a rear...pretty sure we can get one around here cheaper(especially if I get if from Tafts....if I got pull it myself...I'll Borrow dad's truck...then I can deliver it up to ya...figure on 100 for gas into whatever else the rear costs.....and I'm sure it would still be cheaper than getting one from a wrecker up by you and delivered.....
To bad the wrecker LostZuk works for isn't closer to ya(St.Cath's I think he works.....?)....should ask him...wonder about if they deliver....wonder what kinda price he could get ya?....all these posibilities.....lol
Also....I take it the truck is now at your house?....you drove it from up North?....if so it'll make workin on it that much eaiser...lol
So what happened to it exactly?...and phone around....for a price and get back to me.... Duder where did you see these axles? I'll get ahold of Lost and see what he can do for ya....

As the story goes Low, my uncle was towing it, had the towbar installed, lights the works, so he says he tried checking the oil in the diffs but couldn't get the fill plug out FAWK ME!, sure as shit he pulled her with his 92 7.3diesel all the way at about hwy 5 waterdown or somethin people wav'n there hands pointing at the rig on the back, so he ended up pulling of the 403 10min from my house, & the left rear wheel was smokin bad so he rounded the corner, & flop goes the tire, 45 bucks for a tow home, & the spindle is part of the axle stripped right out all bent axleshaft melted inside dont know how i'm gonna get it out yet, but the hub is fine everything in the pod is fine, right is fine just the end spindle fawked, im sure a machineshop could fix it but prolly cost the same as a complete unit, basicaly need right shaft & hub bearings & whole FAWK"N axle LMAO!

i know theres 2 10.25's in hillcreast right now 1 has i think it was 120k on it the other i dono and i have no idea what gears they have in them but i know they are there
and if ford put a 44 under the rear of a half ton in place of the 8.8" then there crapyer than i thought, and no 3/4 ton ever got the 9" plus the last 9" made by ford was in '86 or '87 i cant remember exactly
oh ya and burnt a dana 50 front is basicly just a dana 44 carrier in a dana 60 case its a crapy diff but it is a little better than a d44

one is a 4wd f250 the other is a 2wd f350 now i'm not certin but i'm prety sure all the ford single rear wheel sterlings from the 80's to about '94 are the same, after that ford did some funky things with them including adding a metric bolt pattern which doesn't work with the conventional 8 x 6.5" pattern. just somthing to look out for
