(Scugog, June 23, 2008) Kawartha Conservation is looking for much needed volunteers to help clean up East Cross Forest on Saturday, July 12, 2008 from 8:30am to 4pm.
By participating in the Community Clean Up, you will be helping protect water quality, wildlife habitat, a significant piece of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and a unique natural area that will be available for public enjoyment for many years to come.
East Cross Forest is designated as a natural core area on the Oak Ridges Moraine because of its many ecologically significant features, including the headwaters of East Cross Creek that drain into Scugog River. The forest is scheduled to open to the public in the spring of 2009. For more information about East Cross Forest, visit www.kawarthaconservation.com/conservation_areas/ecf/ECFindex.htm.
If you would like to participate, please contact Kristie Virgoe, Manager of Environmental Protection and Restoration to register and for directions. She can be contacted at (705) 328-2271 ext. 223 or kvirgoe@kawarthaconservation.com.
If you have any equipment that you can bring, such as a tractor, ATV with trailer, or even workhorses, please inform Kristie when you contact her.
We will be meeting at the intersection of Boundary Rd and Murphy Rd at 8:30am on July 12. The clean up will run from 9am to 4pm. A BBQ lunch, water, gloves, sun block, bug spray and a t-shirt will be provided.
High school students may count this event toward their volunteer hours required for graduation.
The East Cross Forest Project is funded by Durham Region, Scugog Township and the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation.
Kawartha Conservation is a watershed-based environmental organization focused on providing abundant clean water within a healthy landscape. It is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario providing natural resources management. The natural boundaries of the Kawartha watershed intersect the municipalities of the City of Kawartha Lakes; Scugog; Brock; Clarington; Galway-Cavendish & Harvey; and Cavan Monaghan.
