There are a few out there now other than the main WARNS etc. One gentleman to talk to Duncan at Titan Winches. They are beefie winches at a good price and he is a good guy to deal with. www.freewebs.com/titanwinches/home.htm

Duncan is the fellow who took over the group purchase of winches last year ... I have one of the 12000 lb units .
I also have an 8000 Champion ( was $399.95 at Cosco). My Champion has worked flawlessly for 3 years .. been underwater a huge amount. Still running.
I got the 12000 lb( was $420 as I recall) & am not totally sure about it. It has a heat overload shutoff & it seemed to need that at Camp NL on Timber 1. The cable is very thick & I'd say too long for the spool. I intend to switch to synthetic though. The wireless remote is iffy the way it works.
I'd buy another Champion but Stinger had to replace his & Lowrad had issues. The free wheeling collar binds after it gets dirty. Comes with a great mounting plate.
The "Titan" offers 12000 lb., better gearing but to me it is slow.
All in all though ... both offer a lot of winch for the price.
Picture of my Cruzr in the deep water is IN Lingham lake .... about 600 ft WITH THE WINCH( editted thankyou very much Lostzuk !!!) underwater ... 12000 lb winch still works.

OK OK ... its all how you read it ... I went about 300 ft OUT to an island & 300 ft back with the winch under water. Now if it was 600 ft UNDERwater ... I'd call it a Jeep ... don't they dump garbage offshore !

I love my SuperWinch...as I recall the Titan's seem to be pretty beefy units BUT I don't think there as "rated" as they say...I.E the 12000lbs is not 12000lbs uin my opinion....cause that one major stuck that Adam had at Minies he had Ben and Jano poth pulling and they didn't budge him till I showed up and hooked on too...then that was three winches and if there woulda been video you woulda seen mine doing alot of the work.....the 12000lbs Titan's couldn't keep up with me......I was pulling him myself for a couple sec. at a time till they caught up when I realized that there lines had slack BUT 1000 plus tax for the SuperWinch(reg price) VS All the others...but even BAD's Warn9000 cost more than my SuperWinch9000 I went through 3 Costco Winches before I had enough....I think it was just my luck as Bushy said....he's had his for Yrs....same as Jano....and Ken....they all haven't seemed to have any problems

I think it depends what you want to do with it, if you want to tow people all day i'd prolly recomend the one like low's 9000, with a pulley block can pull dump trucks, but just wheelin & pullin lets say a jeep, 4000 with a pulleyblock is even overkill, but id get a good 4000lb winch if its to be used quite a bit, as for other than warn, i wouldn;t know what to recomend.

I believe that when it comes to winches, there is not much point buying a winch smaller than 8000lbs. We had a wreck blocking a trail and had 2 8000lb winches pulling on the thing and we still had a hard time moving it as it had sunk into the crap and had no wheels on it. If people are interested I will post up some of the current prices on mIle Markers, but as I say I am not very close to you guys LOL!

well i've listened and what i gather is that that champion, costco deal sounds like the best deal goin if some have lasted three years trouble free, then its paid itself, also have these winches been care for, like pulley blocks too lighten the pull somehow i dont think they all have & some have lasted & some haven,t if so what kind of maintenance can be done example reseal after x amount of months, grease, orings, if the champion has that info i,d definatetly concinder one very soon.

The absolute best thing you can do for a winch is keep it working. Take is every couple weeks or more if you can and run the drum out about 5 feet or so and back in under power. This keeps everything clean and working as far as the contacts. Now the other thing is keep it and its components out of the shit as much as possible. I have my Solenoid box mounted inside on my dash to stop the mud and crud from gumming them up. Most winches are serviceable, so at least once a season, take it apart and clean up what you can and reassemble it. That along with good wire makes for a happy winch.

yeah i thought about what Lost said and if i were stuck like a scapper thats settled nicely in the dirt after about 20 years, whitch i usually go & do, i'd like to have at least an 8000 Warn with the pulley block, pay a little extra & it prolly never let ya down, in a jam.
