The grand went to ifs in the last model change I think it was in '05 before that they were all solid axle with a 4 link same as the Cherokee. If your lookin for a solid axle chev the last one made was in '91 and that was 1-tons, blazers, and suburbans the last 1/2 and 3/4 tons were '87 the only solid axle trucks I know of now are jeep wranglers, ford superdutys (1-tons), dodge 1 and 3/4 tons, and the power wagon which is a 3/4 ton anyway the last ½ ton with a solid axle was the dodge ram (’94-’02) makes ya kinda want to import a Nissan or Toyota you can still get them with a solid axle outside of north America

Was lookin at a couple grand laredo & such, they did have the solid axle, didn't inquire about the transfer case & things but they had one Laredo 05 i think, with the 4.7 8cyl & one 06 grand or other with a 4litre, now i think the milage would be a little worse in the 8cyl but are they equally reliable engines?, i kind of lean towards the 4litre, but the 8cyl is cheaper to buy.

the 4.0 and 4.7 will get the same mileage. The newest 4.0 in the GC's are sucka motors and blow worse than a 4.2 with a rodknock.
GO for the V8
