This is from a buddy of mine ... aka Mikey
I need some advice about my Intrepid please.
A few weeks ago when I braked to go go around a corner, it stalled. The red fuel light came on and I lost my power steering. I pulled over to the side and it started up right away.
Then I drove it for a few days before it happened again. This time I was driving on Kingston Road on Toronto and came up to a red light. Braked and it stalled. Luckily I had time to start is again and off we went. Drove it all weekend without it happening again.
Well it has continued and I took it in to my garage where Wayne put it on his diagnostic machine only to tell me that it was showing no faults.
I then drove it to the nearest Chrysler dealership and their mechanic did the same thing and told me the exact same thing - that the engine was in perfect running condition. So what could I do? I left.
The very next day it stalled again and I phoned the Chrysler place and they wanted to make another appointment. I asked why. All I wanted them to know was that after their inspection, the problem remained.
Anyway just the other day it happened right near my garage (we live close by) so I immediately restarted it and drove it right to Wayne. I never turned off the car and he came out and put a small hand help sensor machine on it. I was looking and it read nothing wrong.
SOOOOOOOOOO, my mechanic is stuck, the Chrysler mechanic is stuck and my car is still stalling.
Points:
It stalls at random! Can go for days or other times to the next corner.
It starts right up again with no problem
Stalls when I brake and go around corners or brake to slow for lights and traffic
Still have my radio and signal lights working.
Recently had an oil change
I've read up as much as I can and see things like: idle speed control valve solution , O2 sensor, cleaning the chute from the air filter to the air control valve , etc.
Wayne suggested we try to replace the crank sensor first.
From my lay person perspective and you know how much I know about engines, I think it has to do with something preventing the fuel from getting to the engine as every time this happens I have my foot off the gas. It never happens when I have my foot on the gas.
If you can suggest anything I would appreciate some help as I have to find out what is causing this.
Thanks.
