Ha ha...k so not to be an asshole but YOU ARE ALL WRONG!!!!! ha ha ha
Sorry but i gotta admit, that's kinda fun to say to a group of people talking about technical things....lol
So after checking all of the sensors that you guys had mentioned I decided to do what I probably should have just done in the first place and hooked it up to a diagnostic tester out at my grandpa's shop. Apparantly there is a problem in the fuel pump ballist relay...which kinda makes sense with what is happening. So now what i need to know is where the f is the fuel pump ballist? I know where the fuel pump relay is but no idea where the ballist relay is....anybody got that one?

I'm not sure about the resistor relay part (couldn't find anything in the wiring diagram), but the early model XJs used a ballast resistor on the fuel pump circuit. I believe it was part of the fuel priming circuit. Also, I believe it's mounted on the firewall. It looks like this.

lol...yep, tried changin' that already...that is a resistor part, what i'm actually looking for is the ballast relay...i had a wiring diagram too and couldn't find it anywhere, but that's what the diagnostic tester said....funny stuff, apparantly this only applies to XJ's and isn't on any other Jeep....it's a code # 76 for Fuel Pump Ballast Relay Open or Ground Problem. I had a book of the codes and wiring diagrams, the code is there but the relay isn't on the diagram.....retarded...

in the meantime...i guess i'll just keep letting it bump start itself or 2 footing the break and throttle rolling into intersections and trying not to rearend anyone....lol

Ballast Res. if it goes it goes (No Start)
I have replaced everything in Stingers Ignition System..because of different problems...even the Module in my Distributor give up..and it was also doing the same thing as Shaner..then died on a trail..also the same thing for Throttle Position Sensor...done the same as Shaner..then died...also had another problem that went on for months..Rev it to 2500rpm and blow one of the Mini 20amp fuse (engine controller fuse) turns out it was my new alternator...
Fuel Pump Relay Ballast..never heard of it... Fuel Pump Relay Fuse POSSIBLE>>>Weak Maybe.. Change them around in your panel..mine got alot of mud and rust around the contacts..but I still say Not It!!
Hey keep going you'll find it...you can always come out here and I'll check it for you..Dam!!!! I've done it enough

thanks stinger, nobody has heard of that ballast but that's what the diagnostics said and in the book it also said for XJ's only so there has to be one somewhere. I actually have an appointment at my uncles shop now to let the pro's try to figure it out on thursday but i'd definately come and show you what i've done so far and see what you think if you want.....i kinda wanna have a look at your XJ too...lol, i've seen it on the road but not up close...I'm off work until Monday

Damn that's a new one on me too...sure it's not just the fuel pump relay...that's how I ended up getting the Waggy(got it off of he who shall not be named's mother)...Waggy had sat for like 2yrs with an itermitant starting problem...she would drive the Waggy all over and not have a problem for days...then outa the blew it wouldn't start...her mechanic couldn't figure out what was wrong with it...SO she parked it(after it left her stranded for the umtenthmillionth time..yes that's a number...probably the same amount of fuses that Stinger went through ;D).....THEN GOTMUD(who is by the way your cousin Shaner )got the XJ for parts for his MJ....anyway..he checked for grounding on the fuel pump relay..and then changed the relay at the same time...Waggy fired right up and been running ever since ;Dlmao

there are 2 relays on the pass.side behind the battery on the fenderwell.
the one closest to the battery is the fuel pump relay. swap that then bypass the little white ceramic ballast. All that ballast on the drivers side fenderwell is make the fuelpump quieter during normal operation.
And Lowrad, yah waggy's been runnin great till she made you fiddle-fawk with the CPS while stuck in that mondo mudhole that day steph and I went withyah to Pete's

That's just the CPS connection....they all do that eventually
And asfar as the fuel pump relay placement...they differ from Renix to H.O
