Any 2.8 from any FWD 80's gm will work if you change over the intake and plenum’s (yes that’s plural there a 3 piece intake) although you must get the matching flywheel or flexplate 85 and earlier had a different balance 86,87 was the same 88 and later is different again but if ya want real fun get a RWD 3.1 or 3.4 they will bolt right in and in some cases they will have the starter bolt holes on the correct side if not you got to drill them or you can use a 3.1 or 3.4 from a newer FWD and your injection will work but the dist. wont fit there plenum so its custom or change the computer and wiring you can’t swap the intake or heads from first gen (82-87 fwd or 82-95 RWD and fiero) to second gen (88-94 FWD) 60* V-6 without aftermarket pistons or you can drop any V-8 in there and blow the doors off anything there are kits as low as $1000 go here it’s the leading swap kit builder www.v8archie.com/v8Archie/home.htm and if ya want any other help with anything to do with fiero's just ask or call me (my number is on the contact list) i'm a fiero guru I don't like to be cocky (well yes I do but that’s besides the point) but there isn't much about fiero’s I don’t know.........................and the engine in the XJ will work in the fiero but it'll be the low output version it wont have the same cam and it has the small valve heads you’d be throwing away 40 hp and running rich
