I had one of those little arc welders.....lol....you might be able to weld and get penitration on 1/8 plate IF you like heated it with a torch first.....definately not for welding a frame They lay a beed but I found they never really got good penetration The Duty cycle on them....I think they where like 20-30 amps 80%....and then all the way down to there max of like 70amp was like 20%.....so at 70amps your tack welding and thats about it
My 2 cents

Dude...I f'n owned one....I know it won't do it Tellin you..its a fact....its really a light duty welder...all its ment for That's it...won't do it...had it...got rid of it...I bought one new..used it like half a dozen times...no penetration with thicker metal.... Even a YJ still hase a full frame that is like 1/4 inch thick plate

yep i agree it does look like poop and only 2 settings, lame. for that kind of money go to princess auto i'm sure they have somthing in that range that will acutual weld something like a frame (edit: i was refering to the new price here. for the asking price i don't know of any better new welders) low a YJ frame will likly be in the 3/16" range (damn it'd be nice and heavy if it was 1/4") and for welding that id recomend a minimum of 1/8" rod and 90 amps so this welder wont help him much. but i do understand why this guy is selling it . as i would too and remember when welding a frame weld any cracks then overlap them with the plate and you want the max surface area you can weld so drill a few holes in the plate then weld them back in (like this napaneeoffroad.proboards77.com/index.cgi?board=samurai&action=display&thread=282&page=7 ) and a strait line will give you the least surface area wait i got a better idea check kijiji i'd bet you can find a decent old stick welder on there for $100-$200 hell i think i only paid $150 for mine and it was only a year old at the time

my welder is a big old lincon. And it's here for anyone to use as long as they got a stove close to a window or door or a welder plug. Its just the extension cord that has a stove plug on it. Don't wanna see anyones rig down.

just a note if you find cracks in the frame drill a hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from spreading then weld crack and hole
