and thats why tow hooks suck if you use a shackle that wont happen

Been there so many times its scary...lol...but good to be reminded O and Duder....I've seen shackles brake too...it that is not nessarily(sp) the hook breaking...thats the tow strap breaking and whatever it has attached to it becomes a projectile....either way it sucks...lol Always stand clear boys and girls(even with a sythetic winch line ..lol)...I always have a heavy blanket in the back of Wilson for just such occassions  |

Ron and I were in Lingham lake awhile ago... We met up with a guy that had a station wagon on a dodge frame with a cummins deisel that got stuck at Johnson Hole.
This is way back when Ron was runnin the 460 powered f-150 and got a chance to see what broken tow hooks can do... Good thing no one was in the way as when they did break they took off like a bullet and right uner the truck all the way to the front.
It was scary to see thats for sure cause if someone was in the way... By-By legs.

Greg and i had the same thing happen as the second one with a chain one day and it went through my hatch on the last xj about 3" below the window. though someone shot the jeep it was loud. so always stay clear.

Well yestarday I went to Princess Auto and the wife let me loose..lol....I bought a bunch of stuff that was on sale
One of the things that I got was a 35000lbs Recovery(not tow) Strap....they don't have hooks on the end....they have double re-enforced looped ends...and they are made so they have some spring to them(they stretch slightly)....a true recovery strap that is made to take good hard tugs......on sale....$50....good deal I think...if you went and got it at TSC the 27000lbs goes for 71.99 and the 35000lbs goes for 91.99....so I saved like 42 bucks....plus tow hooks are like 6 bucks cheaper regular price than at TSC....so it is definately worth the drive...
